We offer a wide range of appointments with different specialists in the practice, including Pharmacists, Physiotherapist, Practice Nurses and Doctors. If possible it is helpful to discuss your reason for needing an appointment with our receptionists who are trained to help guide you to the most appropriate person for your particular problem. This also helps the specialist to be prepared before your appointment. Information will be treated with full confidentiality.
Consultations with the doctor are by appointment and can be booked in person at reception or over the telephone during opening hours. You are free to see your doctor of choice. Most appointments are for ten minutes but if you think you need longer please discuss with the receptionist.
It is not always necessary to see a doctor in the surgery and sometimes a telephone call will be sufficient. Urgent telephone calls can be dealt with every day in both the morning and early afternoon. Non urgent calls can be directed to the doctor who is dealing with your problem. Some minor ailments such as viral illnesses, urinary tract infections or prescription queries can often be dealt with over the phone by the on-call doctor rather than at a face to face appointment.
Minor Illness Clinic
To help maintain quick access to the right person for your problem, we have regular minor illness clinics run by our Practice Nurse Hannah. She can attend to 'less serious' problems (such as ear infections, coughs, sinusitis or cystitis) and can organise prescriptions to treat these conditions if indicated.
Our local physiotherapy department is at Inverurie Hospital. We also have a new service at Kemnay surgery offering initial assessments for acute musculo-skeletal problems either by telephone or by seeing the physiotherapist. These can be arranged directly with our reception. If you require longer term treatments this would be at Inverurie. Children may require referral to Aberdeen if more specialist treatment required.
Our Pharmacists are able to deal directly with requests for medications, changes needs to repeat medications and by telephone with any specific queries or concerns you may have about your treatments. Appointments can be arranged through our reception team.
The practice nurses (Susan, Hannah and Gillian) are available by appointment and provide a wide range of services for things such as wound care, minor injuries, cervical smears, blood pressure checks, health screening and education and travel health. The nursing technician, Carol, carries out blood tests, blood pressure checks, ECGs and some other diagnostic procedures. Susan also deals with diabetes care and runs special diabetes clinics on Tuesday afternoons. It is helpful to give a brief description of the problem if possible so that reception staff can direct you to the most appropriate nurse.
Please do a home test if you think you might be pregnant. If you are pregnant, you need to inform the midwife as soon as reasonable possible. To do this, contact reception and let them know you are pregnant. They will give you an apoointment for around 8 weeks of pregnancy. They will also give you the contact number for your midwife and ask that you phone her to discuss other important information. If you have any other concerns regarding your pregnancy please contact either the midwife or a doctor to discuss.
If you have a problem relating to your eyes, please make an appointment with an optician of your choosing. Minor problems eg mild eye infections can be treated by the pharmacist.
If you have a problem relating to your teeth or gums, please make an appointment with a dentist. They are better trained and equiped to deal with dental problems.
Please note we are a practice keen on teaching and therefore from time to time we have medical or nursing trainees working alongside our normal team.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. You can do this be either telephoning the surgery or by completing the form on the front page of this website.
